If you think you have what it takes to uphold a 125-plus year legacy of treating people the best, we’d like you to become part of our legendary crew. Please complete and submit our online job application. Here are some of the positions we may have available in 2007:

Employment Opportunities
Greeter
You will often be the first person our customers will meet from Arnold and perhaps the entire Northern Michigan tourist community. It’s important to make that first impression warm, friendly and professional. As our greeter, you’ll be responsible for providing courteous, friendly attention to our customers’ needs, concerns and questions. You’ll be asked to have a thorough knowledge of the boat schedule and safety procedures traveling to and from Mackinac Island.

Valet
Most of our customers are not familiar with how we handle their luggage or where they can park their cars over night. Many of our customers arrive at the docks frazzled and anxious to catch the next boat across. Your job will be to help them feel at ease by attending to their needs in a friendly, professional manner. Your responsibilities will include helping the customer remove their luggage from their car, attaching hotel tags and carefully loading the luggage onto carts for safe transport to and from the island. You will also be asked to park and retrieve customers’ cars from our overnight valet parking lots.

Deck Hand
There are three major categories for deck hands:
• Purser — collects tickets and completes daily passenger count reports
• Engineer — maintains and performs upkeep on the boat engines. A working knowledge of diesel engines is required.
• Deck Hand — looks out for passenger safety, helps secure the boat to the dock and assists with the loading and unloading of the luggage carts, bicycles and strollers.

To qualify for these jobs, you must be at least 18 years old and meet the sight, hearing and physical conditions necessary to protect and safely evacuate passengers during an emergency.

Ticket Seller
You will be responsible for selling tickets to our customers, answering questions about the schedule and amenities on the Arnold boats. To qualify, you must be friendly, able to handle the quick pace of a busy dock and accurately process money and credit card transactions.

Bike Rental
Your main responsibility will be to rent bicycles on Mackinac Island and make sure each bike is functioning properly and safely before our customers leave the premises. An ability to accurately handle money and credit card transactions is required. Knowledge of the boat schedule and an ability to answer customers’ questions about the island, tourist attractions and boats is a plus.

Apply online
It’s easy to apply for our available crew positions. Complete our online application and press submit. If your qualifications meet our needs we will interview you prior to making our decision. By late May or early June, will inform you whether you made the crew. Hope to see you aboard soon!
